The ZenZoo project is an interior renovation project to an existing storefront location on the corner of Sunset Boulevard and Vine Street in Hollywood, CA. (fer) studio redesigned the commercial retail space to accommodate a restaurant, kitchen, and retail area. The challenge was infusing the busy corner location in the generic strip mall with the warm, zen-like tranquility of an authentic Asian teahouse.
To create intimacy and to expand the seating capacity, (fer) studio compressed the lofty space by designing a mezzanine level that hovers over the main floor tea bar. Curved orange and yellow soffits entice patrons upstairs and introduce movement into the stiff structured space.
