In designing this installation, Christopher Mercier and Tom Farrage drew inspiration from the site, which is located adjacent to the intersection of Eastham Drive and Warner Avenue.

The structural components of the artwork are intended to be "sculptural objects" which also contribute to a "spatial experience." Edges & Ends is comprised of three vertical plates, two of which stand parallel to one another near the entryway of the complex; the third plate is located directly across the lot from the first two, and within a direct line of sight as one approaches from Warner Avenue. The artist positioned the three plates relative to one another in order to create a "loose feeling of a piazza or town square."
