Sixth + Mill Opens In Los Angeles Warehouse
Mon Oct 15 2018 07:00:00 GMT+0000 (Coordinated Universal Time)
A 1920s masonry and steel structure in the Arts District of downtown Los Angeles has been outfitted with the neighborhood?s newest eatery, Sixth+Mill.
Housed within the former Los Angeles Gas Company warehouse, the Italian concept contrasts the Old World aesthetics reflected in its cuisine with a fresh interior anchored by a white, open kitchen. Locally based design practice (fer) studio adorned the interior of the warehouse with enlarged variations of traditional white subway tiles to express a contemporary interpretation of traditional pizzeria designs. Italian white marble and stainless steel kitchen appliances also stand out in the bright space, which maintains original elements such as exposed brick and tall factory windows. A protective ceiling lid shelters the open kitchen to further juxtapose old and new details, while existing warehouse trusses are now offset with a horizontal steel, framed grid infilled with transparent acrylic panels.
